About AFK Labs
A founder-led studio building useful software.
AFK Labs helps businesses and founders turn promising ideas into thoughtful web and mobile products. Based in Birmingham, we work with people nationwide to make software that earns its place in their users' lives.
How we work
Good software starts with understanding.
01
Start with the problem
Before choosing tools or writing code, we clarify who the product serves and what success should look like.
02
Make complexity feel simple
We shape the experience around real users so the finished product feels clear, focused, and natural to use.
03
Build with care
Design and engineering stay connected from the first decision through launch, creating software that can grow.
Meet the founder
Ellis Alcantara
Founder & software engineer
Born and raised in Birmingham, Ellis studied computer science and mathematics at UAB. His early experience includes time with engineering teams at Amazon Lab126, Expedia Group, and Workday.
After seeing how products are built inside large technology companies, he chose entrepreneurship—following the example set by his parents—and founded AFK Labs to help people turn useful ideas into thoughtful, dependable software.
